A recent update on where I am finding inspiration and articles I have found interesting.
🧠 Level up your psychology skills with growth design resources. This site has become my go-to-source for cognitive biases and principles, created by Dan Benoni and Louis-Xavier Lavallee. Every time a user interacts with a product, they seek the meaning of it, act, store bits of the interaction in their memories, and filter information. To improve user experience, it’s crucial to understand these biases and heuristics that affect decision-cycle steps.
🧑🤝🧑 Inclusive design methodologies. We’re often unaware of the interactions in products that generate exclusion and frustration as we all have preconceived notions of ‘typical’ users. These inclusive design methodologies can better help you foster a sense of belonging for all. A signal to remember: you’re not the only user. 😉
🤳 Move over Millennials. Companies need to appeal to the two billion ‘Gen Z-ers’ of the world. Rex Woodbury describes three key spaces that Gen Z are redefining: sustainability, entrepreneurship and socialization. I found this short article a must-read. If we want to meet Gen Z needs, we must create empowering, intelligent design coupled with a slick online experience in order to gain their loyalty. For a short time at least.
🖌️ New year, new design system. Material Design 3 is Google’s most expressive and adaptable design system yet. The latest updates include design for foldable devices (apparently here to stay), implementation of dynamic color and how to build better by using design tokens to streamline your workflow. It can help your designs with accessibility and building responsive apps, plus their documentation details are inspirational. Some big questions remain: Will brands be ready to adopt Material Design 3’s personalized approach? How will designers collectively make sure to keep our apps unique? What will be next?
🧿 Do more good than harm. Technology, even built with the best intentions can suffer from unintended consequences. This ethical design guide shares a library of tools, articles and courses to better educate everyone working in the industry on crucial and relevant topics. They also have a great monthly email.
